Google Business Profile
Get your Lexington business on the map
Those three map spots at the top of local searches come from Google Business Profiles. Here's what we check on yours.
Search for a roofer or a dentist in Lexington and the first thing you'll see is a map with three businesses. A lot of people choose from those three and never look further.
Those spots come from Google Business Profiles. Google looks at your category, how filled-out the listing is, your reviews and your distance from the searcher. You can't move your shop, but you can make the listing thorough, correct and consistent with your site, and that usually costs less than anything else on this site.
Our eight-point check
| Part of the profile | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Primary category | The single setting that matters most. A near-miss choice quietly loses calls. |
| Secondary categories | Two or three that match jobs you take, no padding. |
| Name, address, phone | Letter-for-letter the same as your website, suite and all. |
| Service area | Towns your trucks really reach, like Lexington, Thomasville, Welcome and Linwood. |
| Services | Listed in plain customer words, each tied to its own page. |
| Photos | Current pictures of your work, people and vehicles, plus gaps to fill. |
| Reviews | Count, recency, your replies, and a simple link customers can use. |
| Website link | Sending visitors to the right service page instead of the front door. |

Google profile questions
- Will I have to hand over my login?
- Never. The review uses what anyone can see. Work through the list on your own, or grant Roger manager access temporarily and revoke it once the fixes are in.
- When will I notice a difference?
- Correcting a bad category or outdated number sometimes pays off within weeks. Reviews and photos are a slower climb.
- I work out of my truck, not a shop. Does this apply?
- It does. You can keep your home address private and show customers the towns you cover.
